During Ramadan, the Muslim sculptors worked at night, as did much of the construction crews. With no food or water between sunrise and sunset that seemed a very good plan. Those who did work during the searing hot days of August and early September did not drink any water at all before sundown!! Incredible. Really.
The site was very well lit and they worked most of the night. Along with all the work that was done, there was a lot of joking around. I had carved my signature (a bit prematurely) during the last days and came back at night to see that someone had embellished my signature with an umbrella — I loved it !! I am guessing that whoever did it didn’t realize how very appropriate that was for someone from Portland. I think I will use it — too bad I don’t know who to credit……….
